Scraffiato pottery (sometimes called sgraffito) is made by incising the design into the soft clay before firing. Usually carrying the E Radford Burslem mark, these are by no means common... but worth seeking out...

Most Radford scraffiato pieces feature an abstract leaf design with a green colourwash, but there are exceptions....
